Iron Crown
Privacy policy
Iron Crown is a turn-based strategy game for Android, made by RunicGrid Games ("we"). This page explains what information the game uses, why, and the choices you have.
The game needs no account. Your progress is saved locally and may also be backed up by Android. We run no analytics of our own. Optional online play uses our relay, Google processes information through the advertising SDK, and Google Play handles any purchase, as described below.
What stays on your device
Your profile contains your progress, settings, age-category flags, a random online player identifier and a record of which acts you have bought. We do not receive your profile. If backup is enabled on your device, Android may back up the profile and its recovery copy to your backup provider or transfer them to a new device. Unfinished battle checkpoints are excluded from the game's Android backup rules.
Settings → Game data → Delete game progress erases local progress, settings and both saved-battle checkpoints. It does not erase Google's ad consent preferences, existing Android backups or relay records. Uninstalling removes local app data, but a backup may restore progress when you reinstall. Backup choices are managed in Android's settings.
The age question
The game asks for a birth year to choose age-appropriate advertising settings. The year is used temporarily on your device; the game does not save or send the birth year. It saves category flags for under 16 and under 13 and passes the corresponding age restrictions to Google's advertising and consent SDKs.
Online play
Online play is optional. When you start or join an online match, the game connects to our relay server, hosted by Cloudflare, so that the two devices can exchange moves. It sends:
- a random identifier that the game makes on your device the first time you play online. It is not linked to your name, your Google account or your device's hardware. It only lets a dropped game take its seat again;
- the room code;
- the version of the game and the battlefields your copy can play, which include those of any act you have bought, so that the two devices can agree on a battlefield;
- your match: the commander and battle settings you choose, and your orders during the battle.
The relay passes these to your opponent. It keeps each room so that a dropped connection can pick up where it left off, and schedules deletion after 12 hours of inactivity, with a maximum room lifetime of 24 hours. Per-address rate-limit counters expire after an hour of inactivity. A service interruption can delay scheduled cleanup. Global capacity counters contain totals rather than player identifiers. There is no chat and there are no player names.
The identifier is pseudonymous: it is not a promise that an online connection is anonymous. Like any internet service, Cloudflare receives your device's IP address to deliver the connection. The relay uses per-address rate limits to prevent abuse. Cloudflare may process connection information under its own service policies. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Ads (Google AdMob)
The free acts offer rewarded ads: a short video you can choose to watch for a bonus in the game. An ad video never plays unless you choose one. After age and consent checks, the SDK may initialise and preload an ad before you choose to watch a video.
The ads are provided by Google AdMob. Depending on age restrictions, consent, SDK settings and device capabilities, Google's Mobile Ads SDK may process:
- your device's IP address, which can indicate its approximate location;
- your device's advertising ID and app set ID;
- how you interact with ads, such as views and taps;
- diagnostic information about the performance of the game and the SDK.
Google uses this to show and measure ads, to prevent fraud and, where you allow it, to choose ads that suit you. Read how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, the game asks for your consent first, using Google's consent form. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Game data → Privacy options, when Google requires that option. The privacy policy is always available in the same tab.
- You can reset your advertising ID, or turn off personalised ads, in your device's own settings (usually Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads).
Purchases (Google Play)
Acts 1 and 2 are free. Act 3 and Act 4 can be bought inside the game as one-time purchases, alone or together. Purchases are made through Google Play's billing service:
- Google Play handles the payment, under Google's privacy policy and the Google Play terms. We never see your card or other payment details, your name or your email address.
- The game asks Google Play which acts your Google account owns, the prices to show, and whether a purchase is complete or still waiting for payment. It confirms each completed purchase to Google Play, using the purchase's token, so that it is not refunded automatically.
- The game saves which acts you own in your profile on your device, so that they play offline. We run no purchase server, and nothing about your purchases is sent to us.
- When the game can reach Google Play it checks again, so a refunded purchase locks its act again. Settings → Restore purchases asks Google Play for your purchases at any time, for example on a new device.
- The first time you play a bought act, its art is downloaded from Google Play.
Google Play may keep a record of your purchases for its own purposes, such as receipts, refunds and fraud prevention. Refunds are handled by Google Play.
What we do not do
- We do not ask for your name, email address or any other contact details.
- We run no analytics or tracking of our own.
- We do not sell your information.
Children
Iron Crown is not directed at children under 13. The age question selects conservative advertising restrictions for younger players, including child-directed treatment for under 13. Google's SDKs process information as described above, subject to those restrictions.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the UK GDPR or the EU GDPR), you have the right to ask for a copy of personal information about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its use. We do not hold an account record or your contact details through gameplay, but the relay temporarily holds pseudonymous match records. You can contact us for help with those records. For the information Google collects for ads, use the choices above. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in the UK, that is the Information Commissioner's Office.
Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent before ads use your information, through Google's consent form. We handle online play's data because it is needed to give you the online match you ask for.
Security
Everything the game sends over the internet is encrypted in transit (HTTPS and secure WebSockets).
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
